Introduction

The 4-hour Liberating Structures workshop took place at Clazy Cafe in Bangkok, with 20 participants attending. Liberating Structures are microstructures that enhance relational coordination and trust, enabling lively participation in groups of any size. The workshop aimed to introduce participants to some of the 33 Liberating Structures available on the official website and practice the ten leadership principles guiding their application.

Highlights of the Workshop:

  1. Impromptu Networking: Participants engaged in quick, focused conversations to build connections and foster idea generation. They answered the prompt, "What brought you here today?" which encouraged team-building and networking.

  2. 1-2-4-All: The democratic process allowed all voices to be heard during brainstorming and problem-solving sessions. Participants addressed questions about Liberating Structures, making it an excellent activity to understand expectations.

  3. TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving): This playful method encouraged participants to think creatively about tough issues. They started with wild ideas to create the worst team, leading to discussions on team efficiency and commitment to eliminate detrimental behaviors.

  4. Troika Consulting: A mini-consultation process demonstrated that peer solutions can be invaluable. Participants shared their work challenges and sought input from peers to overcome obstacles.

  5. 25/10 Crowdsourcing: Participants experienced the rush of generating and ranking a large number of ideas in a short period. They addressed the question, "How can we create cultures of innovation in hierarchical companies?" This process was highlighted as a new innovative approach for hackathon team development.
